Alycia volunteered for many years working with Okotoks Mavericks Swimming as a developmental coach. From the very beginning she stood out from the other coaches and as such was hired on as a paid developmental coach. I have coached swimming for 20 years and Alycia's level of coaching is unmatched by anyone that I have seen at the developmental level. She is a natural with all children as she is patient, understanding, knowledgeable, fun, and caring about what each individual needs to focus on to excel at swimming. Alycia is acutely aware of the technical components of each stroke and is successful at individualizing these skills to meet the needs of each swimmer. This enables the athlete to have an advanced acceleration rate of improvement on the skills needed to be more proficient in the water. I coached Alycia for seven years and witnessed her competing on the national stage throughout Canada and the United States as one of the best swimmers in the country. Part of the reason for her success is her intellect, and how she continues to grow her knowledge of the sport as a lifelong learner. Alycia has my highest recommendation to coach anyone who wants to be better at the sport of swimming.

My son’s strokes improved, even after one session. Coach Alycia has a keen eye for detail and technique and deconstructs the strokes into exercises and explanations matching the child’s abilities. She is patient yet understands how to push her swimmers to the next level. I appreciated her insistence on correcting bad habits and “mastering” the corrective exercises before moving onto the next step, and allowing for adequate practice to help with muscle memory. The sessions were hard work, yet my child still had a blast learning with her! She also goes above and beyond through mental and emotional support - giving us pearls from work ethic, to nutrition, to mental mindfulness. Amazing! We’ll be back for more!’
